I’m Chidinma Grace Ebirim, a medical Laboratory Scientist working with Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Plateau State. Nigeria.
My secondment was hosted by hosted by School of Health Technology in Lisbon for three months, from February to April 2024, under work package 3. Improving Laboratory diagnosis and quantity assurance system for population screening.
The objective of my work is to detect malaria in children with sickle cell in male and female attending Bingham university teaching hospital Jos.
My secondment started with a mandatory on-line courses and certification before engaging in the laboratory activities.
The secondment experience was actually challenging and tasking acquired more knowledge and skills on Molecular Biology; DNA Extraction, Convectional Real time /PCR, DNA Electrophoresis, Measurement of DNA and RNA using Nanodrop one machine, Isoelectric focusing and IEF Results interpretation and Malaria PCR.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Miguel Brito, for his invaluable support, his expertise has truly made a significant difference in my learning journey while in Lisbon.I wish to acknowledge the warm reception and tutoring from Catarina, your patience and encouragement have empowered me to tackle challenges with confidence while working with you.
